Discover Bara District
Bara District, nestled in Nepal’s central-eastern Terai, covers around 1,190 square kilometers and is home to approximately 743,982 people. Known for its fertile lands, Bara is a vital agricultural hub, particularly celebrated for its rice cultivation. The district features a mix of flatlands, dense forests, and vibrant communities. Mainali Farmhouse is located in Kolhavi Municipality, providing an authentic experience of the Tharu community’s rich cultural heritage and agricultural traditions.

Guests can witness traditional animal husbandry and savor authentic local cuisine made from fresh, locally sourced ingredients. The farmhouse’s cozy ambiance allows visitors to immerse themselves in the rural lifestyle and build a meaningful connection with the land and people of Bara.
Celebrate Asar 15: A Cultural Feast
Our visit coincided with Asar 15, celebrated across Nepal as National Paddy Day. This day is marked by enjoying traditional dishes like yogurt and beaten rice, signaling the start of the rice planting season. At Mainali Farmhouse, we joined in the festivities and observed the crucial role of monsoon rains in ensuring a successful harvest. The lush fields being prepared for planting were a vivid reminder of the deep connection between the land and its people.
Adventurous Activities: Tubing, Camping, and More
Our adventure extended beyond cultural exploration. We enjoyed a range of activities that showcased the region’s natural beauty. Tubing along the Jamuni River was a refreshing escape from the heat, and camping by the river’s edge allowed us to fully appreciate the tranquility of nature. We also explored the scenic Charkosey Jhadi jungle on a guided walk, strolled along serene riverbanks, and witnessed breathtaking sunset views that highlighted Bara’s natural splendor.
