Here is a summary of the journey we made to Khumai Danda. We hope that this will inspire you to at least peek at the Machhapuchhre and Annapurna in their close periphery and enjoy a peaceful trek that will help you escape your day-to-day hustle for a while.

About the Great Machhapuchhre Trail

The Great Machhapuchhre Trail (GMT), also known as the Machhapuchhre Model Trek or Khumai Danda Trek, is rapidly gaining recognition as a prime destination for hikers. In recent days, this trek has proven to be an excellent alternative to the overcrowded Mardi Himal Trek. Both the Mardi Trek and the Khumai Trek offer similar landscapes and breathtaking views. However, the key difference lies in the perspective they provide: from Khumai Danda, trekkers enjoy a clear front profile of the majestic Mt. Machhapuchhre, while the Mardi Himal Trek offers a closer, sectional view of the mountain. This unique vantage point makes the Khumai Danda Trek a standout choice for those seeking a serene and picturesque trekking experience.

Day 1: From Kathmandu to Pokhara

Our adventure began in the bustling streets of Kathmandu. The roads varied from dusty paths to well-paved highways, reflecting Nepal’s ongoing infrastructure development. The day’s highlights marked a brief stop at Malekhu Bazaar by the Trishuli River and a serene stay at Hotel Crown Himalaya in Pokhara. The ride was tiring, but the environment of Pokhara made us forget all our fatigue, and we were ready to embark on a new journey the next day.
